Easter Card Games

Why has WishGrass designed these teaching materials?

Thematic Activities series include teaching materials that cover a wide range of thematic vocabulary and grammar items for enhancing students’ language skills. This set of word cards can be used for class activities.

Theme: Easter

Language Focus: Simple Past Tense – Regular & Irregular Verbs

Type of Resources: Word Cards

Learning Outcome:

Students will be able to form the past simple of both regular and irregular verbs.

Recommended Activities:

We can play quite a lot of games with our students using the same set of materials.

1. Discover

  • Show your students a few pairs of eggs. Ask them to find out the rules of different groups (the patterns of eggs are based on verb groups)

2. Consolidate

  • Easter Egg Hunt

Cut the eggs into halves. Hide one part of them in the room. Ask the students to

find them out. The fastest one/group wins. After collecting all the eggs, ask them

to read aloud the pairs. Advanced students can use the verbs to make sentences.

*Variations: If you don't want your students to run around the room, you could

simply place them on the table.

  • Memory Game

Cut the eggs into halves. Turn all eggs face down. Turn up two parts each time. If

they can find pairs (correct infinitive and past tense pairs), keep them. If they

can't, turn them face down again. The one with more pairs wins the game.

  • Break the Egg

Cut the eggs into halves. Spread one part of the eggs (either infinitives or past tense) on the table. Say the infinitive form/past tense form of the verb and then

the students slap the right egg. The one/group with more eggs wins.

3. Practice

Do relevant exercise to consolidate what has been learnt.
