I use this resource often in my class because I meet most of my students once or twice a week only. This set of worksheets help the students quickly review the key points they need to know. Usually, it takes only around 5 to 10 minutes for my students to finish one page. And then we can work on other topics or have some language activities to use the language.

Why has WishGrass designed these teaching materials?

WishGrass designs teaching materials to solve real problems in class. These two sets of worksheets have been designed to solve the below problems:

Problem 1: ‘‘It is so difficult to remember the irregular verbs.”

Solution 1: Remember them in groups will help them remember better.

Problem 2: “What is the past tense of ‘write’? Wrote? Wreto? Wrtoe?”

Solution 2: Chunking helps students to remember better, but it doesn’t help if they cannot remember the features of those groups. After teaching all the basic rules, I usually ask them to write down the past and past participles of around 10 - 20 verbs next lesson. And then I will go through some features with them. Sometimes I will give them or ask them to give me one more example from that group.

E.g. write -> wrote (o_e group). One more example: drive -> drove

cry -> cried (y -> ied group). One more example: try -> tried

Problem 3: “When should I use past tense and past participles?”

Solution 3: After remembering a list of past tense and past participles, students, especially EFL students, often ask when they can use that long list of verbs.

Therefore, I include five sentences to show them different situations for them to use past tense and past participles. I put the sentences in a particular order:

“affirmative -> negative -> interrogative -> (passive)”.

If students haven’t learned those types of sentences, I will just skip them. It is flexible.
